Same panoramic
view as 1844 Currant Creek Pass crossing
Central peak
overlooks Colorado’s famous South Park
The view north from
the middle of Aspen Creek Ranch (above left) overlooks Colorado’s
famous South Park, whose grassy plains in the center of this panorama
is home to buffalo and cattle ranches. This is the view that Lt.
John C. Fremont and his guide, Kit Carson, saw in 1844 on their
return trip from surveying California. As they left South Park,
they crossed over Currant Creek Pass through the land that is near the
Aspen Creek Ranch. Looking north from a spot immediately
beyond the ranch boundary on the slopes of Thirtynine Mile Mountain,
you see the view of South Park as shown above right.
The five bedroom frame ranch house was built in the 1880's. A preserved
log cabin on the property formerly served as a pony express depot.
